The College of Arts and Sciences offers five-year bachelors/masters degrees in select departments and programs. These opportunities offer students a chance to accelerate their academic and career options by adding a master's degree to their course of study.

  • Biology

    The Department of Biology offers a research-based 5-year Bachelor of Science (BS)/Master of Science (MS) degree. Over the course of their senior year, plus one additional year of graduate study, students in the program will take graduate level courses, conduct independent research, and write a Master of Science thesis.

  • Chemistry

    The Department of Chemistry offers a dual Bachelor of Science (BS)/Master of Science (MS) in Chemistry is designed to provide students with hands-on training in research and analysis in a reduced timeframe of five years. This program will allow students to be more competitive in admissions to Ph.D. and M.D. programs, as well as in the employment market.

  • Computer Science

    The Department of Computer Sciences offers a 5-year Bachelor of Science (BS)/Master of Science (MS) degree for those students seeking an accelerated experience in Computer Science. This program provides research training for students who wish to work in a computing research lab, or possibly continue to PhD studies. Incoming students can be admitted to the program if their mathematics placement is MTH108 or higher.

  • History

    The Department of History offers a five-year program that combines a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and a Master of Arts (MA) degree. The accelerated nature of the program enables students to take graduate-level courses in their final undergraduate year, then complete the Master’s degree in one year of full-time study, rather than the usual two years of full-time graduate study, and at a reduced cost.

  • Latin American Studies

    The Latin American Studies program offers an accelerated 5-year Bachelor of Arts (BA)/Master of Arts (MA) program called the Fellowship in Latin American Studies (FILAS). Students will follow a rigorous and accelerated plan of study while having the opportunity to participate in exciting collaborative research, travel, and work throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • Mathematical Finance

    The Department of Mathematics offers an accelerated 5-year program where students earn a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics and a Master of Science (MS) in Mathematical Finance. This program is dedicated to producing technically trained professionals with an understanding of how to analyze and value complex investments, and assess the associated risk. Is is also important to note, the Master of Science in Mathematical Finance (MSMF) is the first professional degree for the practitioners of quantitative finance ("quants").

  • Public Administration

    The Department of Political Science offers an accelerated 5-year program which allows students to earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration (MPA). The MPA program is typically a 2-year, 48-credit program, but this dual degree option allows students to complete the MPA in one year. Through this option students may earn the MPA in a reduced amount of time for a reduced number of credits.
